Short answer

The key point first

In Ankara's private family counselling centres, fees are not set freely; they are determined annually by a fee assessment commission from the Ankara Governor's Office Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. The 2026 tariff defines minimum and maximum fees for 60-minute individual counselling and 90-minute family and couple's counselling; all fees include VAT.

Why is there so much curiosity about counselling fees in Ankara?

People searching for an Ankara psychologist often have questions about fees. This is understandable: psychological counselling is rarely a single session and usually progresses with regular weekly or fortnightly appointments. Therefore, knowing the fees in advance is crucial for the sustainability of the process.

It can be confusing to see wildly different figures on various online sources. However, in Ankara's private family counselling centres, fees are not set freely; they are capped by an official commission's decision with minimum and maximum values. This guide has been prepared by the Özel Vivere Aile Danışmanlık Merkezi Knowledge Centre to explain this official framework transparently.

In this guide, you will find information on how fees are determined, which range applies to which service, the factors that influence fees, and what to consider when planning your budget.

Who determines the fees? The official fee assessment commission

The fees for private family counselling centres in Ankara are determined annually by a fee assessment commission within the T.C. Ankara Valiliği Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler İl Müdürlüğü (Ankara Governor's Office Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services), in accordance with Article 22 of the Ministry of Family and Social Services' Regulation on Family Counselling Centres.

The decision applicable for the year 2026 was published with the 'Ankara Province Private Family Counselling Centres 2026 Fee Assessment Commission Decision' dated 29.12.2025, with reference number E-11276684-500-19281497. The decision is valid throughout 2026. Fees include 20% VAT.

The most significant benefit of this system for clients is predictability and transparency. Whichever centre you approach, the fees should not be outside the official range. This allows clients to plan their budgets confidently before receiving services.

Understanding fees by service type

Initial consultation service is a brief 15–20 minute meeting for introduction and guidance. The presenting issue is understood, and a suitable specialist and appointment format are determined.

Individual counselling is a 60-minute one-to-one session. Adult, adolescent, and parental counselling are generally considered under this category. For details, you can visit our individual counselling page.

Family counselling and couple's counselling are 90-minute sessions involving more than one person, where relationship dynamics are addressed. The longer duration is planned to allow space for multiple perspectives.

Group counselling involves 90–120 minute sessions with participants who have gathered around a specific theme; the fee is calculated per person attending the group. Test administration covers the application of assessment tools such as IQ, personality, and developmental screening tests.

Individual sessions are planned for 60 minutes, while family and couple's sessions are for 90 minutes.

Factors that influence the fee

Within the official range, fees may vary between centres. This difference usually stems from the following factors:

  • Type of session: individual, couple, family, or group
  • Session duration: 60 or 90 minutes
  • The practitioner's experience and educational background
  • Whether additional assessment or test administration is required
  • The centre's physical facilities and service standards

VAT, invoices, and payment terms

All fees listed in the official tariff are inclusive of 20% VAT. This means the figures you see in the table represent the total amount you will pay; no further tax will be added.

Private family counselling centres are obliged to issue an invoice for the services they provide. An invoice both protects the client's rights and shows that the service is officially recorded. Payment methods (cash, credit card, bank transfer) may vary from centre to centre; it is advisable to ask about this during the initial consultation.

Budget planning for the counselling process

Psychological counselling can be thought of as an investment: it yields more meaningful results when it is regular and sustainable. Therefore, reviewing your own budget before starting the process can help you plan the frequency of sessions realistically.

For example, weekly individual sessions mean four sessions in a month. As the process progresses, the interval between sessions may extend to every two weeks, which reduces the monthly cost. You can determine the frequency of sessions together with your practitioner, considering both your needs and your resources.

Free or differently scoped services

Some centres may offer certain services for free. For example, at our centre, corporate consultancy services are free for companies and institutions. It is important to find out the scope and conditions of such services in advance.

Additionally, family counselling units affiliated with public institutions and the social service centres of municipalities may also offer support under certain conditions. It may be beneficial to research different options according to your needs and resources.

What questions should you ask about fees?

When asking a centre about fees, it is advisable to ask questions that will help you understand the overall cost of the process, not just the session fee.

  • Where does the session fee fall within the official tariff range?
  • Is there a fee for the initial consultation, and if so, how much is it?
  • Do you issue an invoice?
  • What is your fee policy for cancellations or postponements?
  • Is there a difference in fees between online and in-person sessions?
  • If test administration is required, what is the additional fee?

When are the fees updated?

The official tariff is redetermined every year. The commission, which usually convenes in December, announces the fees for the following year. The 2026 tariff is valid between 01-01-2026 and 31-12-2026.

When the new year's decision is published, centres must adjust their fees to comply with the new tariff. If you are in a long-term process, it is useful to bear in mind that there may be a change in fees at the turn of the year.
